Just a reminder of the Jacksonville Lunch Bunch Christmas Party:

 

As was mention in the Annual Meeting of FMSA in October the Jacksonville Lunch Bunch will have there annual Christmas Party at Rex and Rose Riley's Home on December 7, starting at 2 PM. All are invited and bring a friend if you want. Rose will make Deviled Eggs and have a Cheese Cracker, etc. Meat, Tea, and Soda will be provided.  Bring your on Liquor. A cost of $5.00 is ask to be donated to help out on the meat cost. If you would bring a side dish it would be appreciated. Have not heard from John and Margaret Hartman on there famous RUM Cake as of yet. Those that want to make the plunge in the pool are welcome to do so.

Old friends from Class of 63 reunite

Hello Rex ... for the blog ...

The bonds run deep. 

Thomas Bokor ('63) wrote David Tooker that he was coming to the U.S. from his home in Venezuela the first week of November. David and three classmates quickly responded with a plan to meet for lunch at Fantasy of Flight in Polk City on November 7th.

We were treated to complimentary passes to visit the museum and displays and a great time was had by all.

I know this is a late time to let everyone know about our next Lunch gathering. Our next Jacksonville Lunch Bunch will be on Saturday November 2, 2013 at the Golden Corral at 4250 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. Time 11:00 AM. Hope to see all there.  Some will go a little earlier to eat breakfast so that will be ok.  Some wives will be there.  They can help Rose plan our Christmas party for December.

 

There will be a few that are going to the FLORIDA Ga game after the lunch.  Go GATORS

 

Those that missed the Reunion will now have to wait another two years.  It was great seeing those that I have not seen for some time.

Hey guys,

 

Just a note to let you know what you can have at the Airport Restaurant & Gin Mill.  This Restaurant has been there for some time.  Jim Turner, Dennis Eire, and Thorthon Ridinger eat there on the meeting days.  They say it is really good.

Brownie Ramsey is going to have some surgery on the 21st and will not be able to attend and sends his regards.  Stew Robinson will not be there either as he has to get things ready for his wife's second hip surgery on the 21st also.  He did say he is planning on being with us at the next reunion and having lunch with the Jacksonville Lunch Bunch in the future.  Or is it Back to the Future???????

FMS Jacksonville Lunch Bunch

Fellow Cadets and Friends:

 

It's that time of year again and we are having an annual meeting in DeLand, Florida on Saturday October 19, 2013 at Steve Nash Hanger at the DeLand airport.

 

We will CAR POOL to DeLand and if you want to meet with us we would love to have you.  Meeting at the Avenues Mall on the South end of the parking lot by Bucco's   We will leave at 9:30 AM so be there.  You know how important our LUNCH is. 

 

The Jacksonville Lunch Bunch is going to eat at a different restaurant which is close to the airport.  We will still have plenty of time to socialize with the rest before the meeting.  It is due to the slow service we have been getting.  I hope everyone will enjoy the new place and join us.  The following is the information on the fine dinning at a reasonable price.

 

We will be meeting at 11:00 AM so see you there.  Should be through by about 12:00 PM.

The name of the restaurant is the Airport Restaurant and Gin Mill. It is located on the flight line at the airport. When you enter from Rte 92 where the FMS gates are, go to the stop sign where you would normally turn right to go to Skydive DeLand. Turn left instead and go down about a half-mile to a major intersection. Looking over to the right you will see across the field the airport flight deck and the restaurant. Their address is 1120 Flight Line Blvd and their telephone # is (386) 734-9755. Their cheeseburgers are particularly good.

Jacksonville Lunch Bunch Sept 21

Hey guys,

 

This month has been really crazy for me to plan things.  If everyone would like to meet on the 21st of September at the Scottish Rite would love to see you there.  The Cost is $8.00 for a fish dinner.  Last year it was all you can eat so I hope it will be the same this year.  There will be two big Wall Screens to see your football game.  The time will start at 10:00 AM.  I will have to leave at 11:45 but everyone is welcome to stay.  Family can come to this function if you would like to bring them.  This is a building fundraiser for the Scottish Rite.  Hope to see you this Saturday.  Know some are unable due to the tickets for the game.  Sorry Jeff.

FMS BOB GREEN 66

This is an update on Robert (Bob) Green. He is in St Vincents Hospital on Belford Road room 400, Jacksonville, Florida. He told me this morning that he would be there a couple more days.  I really think he needs to go to a rehab hospital to get the care he needs.

FMS Sgt Robert Green in Hospital

Fellow Cadets and Friends:

 

This is an update on Robert (Bob) Green.  He is in St Vincents Hospital on Belford Road room 400, Jacksonville, Florida.  He had Surgery on his back.  They took out the screws that held him together.  He is in a lot of pain and has a lot of drugs in him.  I plan on going to see him on Thur some time.  I will report any other news after my visit.  I just got a phone call and he says he will be getting out of the Hospital on Thur.  I hope to see him Thur. 

 

I know he needs all the Prayers from everyone so remember him when you are Praying.

FMS Reunion

Less than 2 weeks until the reunion!

Any registrations that come after next Wednesday will not receive the items that are included with a normal registration. We have to provide an exact number of meals and the handouts that are given at registration. If you are planning to attend and have not yet registered, please contact Sue Elliott at sgcourtney@att.net as soon as possible so that you are not excluded from the meals and handouts that are included with the pre-registrations. Rooms at the hotel are no longer guaranteed at the negotiated rate, but the hotel may still be able to give the discounted rate (if you are lucky)!

We have been keeping the registration fees the same for the last 13 years.

Alex Nelon - Class of 63

Well, I hope to hear from some of my classmates, kind of like the alumni pages I see in the college quarterly newsletter. You know, the one where you have to keep paging back to get to your class year. Way Back.

After FMS I went off to the same college that Major Steely attended - Centre College of Kentucky - and finished in 1967. I was always fascinated with airplanes and ended up as a corporate pilot - I retired in 2008.

My wife went to Centre and we married the week after I graduated. Our 3 children, 2 daughters and a son, gave us 8 grandchildren. We moved back to my wife's home town (Mount Dora) last year and spend our time there and in my home town in the North Carolina mountains. 

When Anina and the poodles give me permission I spend time at a nearby airport, tinkering with an antique airplane and flying out to nearby airports (including DeLand) for breakfast or lunch with some of the fellows. The airplane goes in for refurb this fall so I'll be learning a lot about that.

The reunions have been great fun. It's amazing how, with some people, you can take up conversation right where you left off a long time ago.
